Sunwah Group started investing in science and technology in 1998 in response to former President Ziang Zemin's strategy of "Strengthen the nation through science and technology". Sunwah Hi-Tech Group was then set up to form alliances with the Physics and Automation Institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Zhongshan University, the Nanjing University, and the Shanghai University to establish co-operative projects. Group chairman Dr Jonathan Choi serves as Economic Advisor to the President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Over the years, the Group has greatly improved its innovation capability through deepened collaborations with its partners.
To further promote technological advancement, Sunwah established the China HK Israel Technology Co-operation and Promotion Center and the China India Software Association to form international platforms for co-operations. In addition, SunwahHi-Tech collaborates with the Guangdong Academy of Sciences to boost strategic cooperation on cutting-edge technologies, development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation Demonstration Zone for bio-agricultural engineering and healthcare services.
Sunwah Hi-Tech joined effort with academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering SciencesMr. Chen Yong and his team on environmental projects. The company also conducts technological exchanges and consultancy with leading state-owned enterprises such as the China National Offshore Oil Corporation, the Aluminum Corporation of China and the China State Shipbuilding Corporation and rolls out many pilot projects across the country.
In September 2019, Sunwahand the Chinese Academy of Sciences Space Application Engineering and Technology Centre jointly held the first "The Earth Lunar Space Economic Forum" to explore future economic development.
Sunwah Hi-Tech co-operates with the Bright Food Group to develop a "China food Silicon Valley".
Sunwah Hi-Tech co-operates with the Bright Food Group to set up the "Sunwah-Bright International Food and Agricultural Innovation Center" in Shanghai, Hong Kong and overseas. Supported by the Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang, the project includes the development of a "China food Silicon Valley" in Chongming Island, a world class food technological and environmental island in Shanghai focused in environmental, soil, water, seed genetics and nutrition management and advancement.
