At the invitation of Vietnam Communist Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and his wife, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Vo Van Thuong and his wife, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan paid a state visit to Vietnam from December 12 to 13, 2023. On December 13, Chinese First Lady Peng Liyuan, accompanied by Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong's wife Phan Thanh Sim, visited Hanoi National University and exchanged views with students at the Jonathan KS Choi Cultural Centre.

Mrs. Peng Liyuan and Mrs. Phan Thanh Sim had a cordial interaction with representatives of Vietnamese students studying Chinese. The students happily shared the situation and experience of learning Chinese, and held a small talent show. Mrs. Peng Liyuan praised the students for their Chinese proficiency and rich talents. She said that language is a bridge of communication, and hopes that everyone can study Chinese, learn more about and perceive China, be ambassadors to promote cultural exchanges between China and Vietnam, and let the cause of China-Vietnam friendship be passed on from generation to generation.
