On July 4, the Choi Kai Yau Residence's Naming and Groundbreaking Ceremony was organized in the United College, CUHK. Dr. Jonathan Choi, Standing Committee Member of the CPPCC National Committee and chairman of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Entrepreneurs Union, expressed that Hong Kong needs to step up efforts to cultivate the youth, enhance the feeling of caring about their family and country, and cultivate new generation to love country and Hong Kong, as mentioned by Xi's speech in Hong Kong recently.
This new project has received a donation of HK $50 million from the CKY Education Charitable Trust and Choi Koon Shum Education Foundation, supporting CUHK United College to build a new dormitory to accommodate more residential students. To express deep gratitude to Dr. Choi and Mrs. Choi, United College named the new dormitory after Dr. Choi's late father, Mr. Choi Kai Yau, and the public space and the multi-function concert hall inside the dormitory as the Jonathon KS Choi Cultural Centre and Choi Kwan Wing Kum Concert Hall respectively. Choi Kai Yau Residence will be a four-storey building with a floor area of 2,805 square meters. The project will be completed in the first quarter of 2025, providing 250 student hostel places.
