
As Standing Committee Member of the CPPCC and Chairman of the Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Dr.Jonathan Choi was quick to respond to the emergency of fighting against COVID in "3-dimension" by extending a helping hand to the Mainland, overseas and Hong Kong partners.
On 8 September, the national Fight against COVID Appreciation Ceremony was held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. China's General-Secretary President Xi presented honour of appreciation to those who had made significant contributions to fight against COVID. Represented by Mr.Johnson Choi, Executive Director of Sunwah Group, Dr.Jonathan Choi and Sunwah Group was among the 16 Hong Kong representatives to receive the award. Sunwah was highly recognized a hearty and responsible corporation.

World search of anti-epidemic supplies for the Mainland.
In the first quarter of 2020, Dr.Jonathan Choi visited Malaysia three times and met with the chief ministers to discuss the Belt and Road Initiative and the Guangdong-HK-Macao Bay Area for co-operations and its benefits to the ASEAN countries. At this critical time, news of COVID and shortage supplies of anti-epidemic materials was heard.

In January, Dr.Jonathan Choi visited Malaysia three times and met with the chief ministers to call for business exchanges and co-operations.
Dr.Jonathan Choi recognized the seriousness of the coronavirus in Wuhan. He immediately searched for medical protective gears including face masks, surgical gowns, headgears, gloves, and sanitizers in Malaysia for donation to the Hubei Red Cross, and also arranged some back to Hong Kong. At the same time, he called for Sunwah's staff and partners in Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan and Korea to help searching and speed transport to the Mainland.

Sunwah's staff strived their effort to searchanti-epidemic materials worldwide. However, an unhappy incident occurred in Korea. Dr.Jonathan Choi in the name of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce ordered face masks from Korea. For some unknown reasons, the electronic payment to the supplier disappeared and the whole lot of face masks was sold to another purchaser. Dr.Choi doubled the prices hoping immediate delivery to the Mainland but both payments lost their ways. Despite this situation, Dr.Choi made the same donation to the city of Daegu and Seoul when the COVID was hitting Korea seriously in the coming months.

Hong Kong industrial and business sectors joined forces
Upon returning to Hong Kong, Dr.Jonathan Choi joined forces with the industrial and business sectors to support the anti-epidemic movement.
On 3 March, Dr.Jonathan Choi and Vice-chairmen represented the Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce to present a cheque of HK$4 million to support anti-epidemic activities in the Mainland. Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in HKSAR Deputy Director Tan Tie-niu received the cheque on behalf of the Mainlanders. The total donation to date accumulated to HK$30 million.

On 4 March, Dr.Jonathan Choi represented the Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce to present a cheque of HK$4 million to support anti-epidemic activities in the Mainland.
Deputy Director Tan Tie-niu highly acclaimed the kind deed of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce. Dr.Jonathan Choi together with Vice-chairmen and members distributed face masks and sanitizers free to the Hong Kong communities at their Central office. At the same time, the same would be distributed to the elderly, grassroots and the needy communities via social welfare organizations.

Insurance cover for the "Disciplinary forces volunteer services group"
At this critical time, Dr.Jonathan Choi was able to find an insurance cover of HK$12 million for the "Disciplinary forces volunteer services group". The Group was about 800 members from the current and retired disciplinary forces. They supported the medical and immigration teams 24 hours in taking care of the COVID patients, and worked in the high-risk quarantine camps. However, none of the insurance companies accepted their insurance cover. After some negotiation, Dr.Choi was able to find the China Taiping Insurance to solve the problem.

Assist Vietnam in fighting against COVID
As the coronavirus is hitting worldwide, Dr.Jonathan Choi continued to source anti-epidemic supplies to help relieve the shortage supplies of anti-epidemic materials to the ASEAN and European partners. Dr.Choi expressed his concern and gave support to the front-line medical workers.

In April, Sunwah donated medical face masks to the Penang State Government of Malaysia. Chief Minister of Penang Mr. Chow Kon Yeow received on behalf of the Malaysian Government.
This year was the 50th Anniversary of Sunwah Group's operation in Vietnam. With the outbreak of COVID extending to Vietnam, Sunwah gave support to Vietnam as soon as possible to combat the pandemic.
A ceremony was held on 28 April at the Vietnam Fatherland Front's Hanoi Office to mark the donation of VND 5 billion to the Government of Vietnam by Dr. Jonathan Choi of Sunwah Group to support Vietnam's fight against COVID.
On 31 March, Sunwah started to donate 40,000 medical masks to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Education and Training and Vietnam National University in Hanoi.
On 9 April, the Group donated anti-epidemic supplies including 20,000 medical masks, 2,000 bottles of hand sanitizer, 100 sets UV germicidal lights and technology products to the Ho Chi Minh City government and Sunwah's university partners in the City.

Sunwah extended China friendship to Cambodia
From 24 to 26 March, Sunwah donated 50,000 medical face masks to the Cambodia Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Culture and Arts and the Cambodia National University of Management. Sunwah had invested in Cambodia for more than 24 years. Earlier, Sunwah had committed a donation of US$500,000 to support Cambodia's educational and technological developments.

Continuation of Sino-Japanese friendship
Sunwah had started relationship with Japan since 1965. Sunwah was one of the largest importers of Japanese seafood to Hong Kong which accounted for 24% of Japanese export.
In April, Japan's epidemic situation became worst. Sunwah donated the first lot 40,000 KN95 face masks to Japan and assistance to Japan to fight against COVID was non-stop.

Japan Consul-General in Guangzhou represented the Japanese Government to receive the anti-epidemic supplies.
Donations to Europe and Canada
In May, Sunwah donated 20,000 FFP2 face masks to Austria. The Austrian Federal Economic Chamber Chairman, the Agricultural Trade Chairman Dr.Dietmar Schweiggl and the Hospital Association Werner Sailer received the donation and sent their gratefulness to Dr.Jonathan Choi via the China Embassy in Austria.The Austrian Federal Economic Chamber is a government official institution and the highest commercial organization in Austria.

Sunwah collaborated with the Liaoning University and the UK De Montfort University and founded theSunwah International Business School in Shenyang. Students were required to study two years in UK and two years in Shenyang. Students studying in UK received face masks from Sunwah and sent their gratitude to Dr.Choi.

About 70 students in UK received face masks from Sunwah.
Dr.Jonathan Choi showed his concern and support to the government of Germany, and donated FFP2 face masks to Dusseldorf on 16 April. The City's chairman Mrs. Radermacher received on behalf of the City.

On 31 March, Sunwah donated 100,000 medical face masks to France via the French Embassy in Beijing. The Cultural and Educational Consul Mr. Mikael Hautchamp received on behalf of the French Government. For years, the Jonathan KS Choi Foundation has been in co-operation with the French Embassy in Beijing to promote Sino-French cultural and arts exchange.

Sunwah also donated anti-epidemic supplies to Canada, Italy and Spain.
