On 9 August, the China National Health Commission head of the senior specialist team and Chinese Academy of Engineering member Zhong Nan-shan received an appointment certificate from Dr.Jonathan Choi and became the Chief Health Advisor to Sunwah. He was the second world renowned scientist appointed as chief advisor to the Group after Nobel Laureate Yang Chen-ning.

On the same day, Sunwah and the Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Health jointly initiated the "Chronic disease management network through screening" Scheme. A launching cum donation ceremony was held in Guangzhou and Sunwah donated a set of infrared thermal imaging equipment to the Institute.

Dr.Jonathan Choi said that the collaboration had realized his two wishes. He always wanted to co-operate with a top medical institution to develop the healthcare industry, and secondly, he wished that every citizen could benefit the conventional medical care services. Academician Zhong was an esteem doctor in the medical field. He had the same vision with Zhong for the provision of simple, convenient and inexpensive healthcare services.

Academician Zhong stressed that the "Chronic disease management network through screening" Scheme was a significant precautionary step against chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, tumors and respiratory diseases which was not very clearly known in its early stage. He hoped that the infrared thermal imaging technology could be promoted for speedy screening and better protection.

Sunwah greatly supported Zhong's team, and initially picked Yang Jiang, a remote small city in Guangdong as the beneficiary of the RMB4.8 million equipment donation. The Scheme would be expanded to Guangzhou and other cities of the Pearl River Delta.
