For the fifth year Sunwah Group sponsored the opening performance of the China National Day Concert celebrating the 63rd anniversar of the People's Republic of China, and the 15th anniversary of HKSAR. The Concert was held on 28 September 2012 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
HKPO took this special occasion to welcome jaap van Zweden, the new Music Director who had chosen the National Day Concert as his debut concert. Jaap was an internationally renowned conductor who was named Musical America's Conductor of the Year for 2012. This was indeed great news to have him in Hong Kong's musical arena.
Deputy Director Yang Jianping of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Governament in HKSAR, Deputy Commissioner Hong Xiaoyong of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in HKSAR, and Secretary Tsang Tak Sing of the Home Affairs Bureau were the Guests of Honour.
Distinguished guests from the political and business sectors attended the Concert, including the Consul Generals from Austria, Brazil, Chile, Finland, Israel, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Kuwait, Myanmar, Netherlands, The Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Swizerlang, Turkey, USA, and Vietnam. Among the VIPs also include music lovers Financial Secretary John Tsang and Secretary Tam Chi-yuen of the Constitution and Mainland Affairs Bureau.
Speaking at the cocktail reception, Dr. Jonathan Choi expressed his gratefulness to all guests for their long-time support and for sharting the joy of appreciating great music and celebrating a better China and HKSAR.
